Manoj Herath: Savior of Royal Thomian Day 1 and 2 photos

If it were not for Manoj Herath we would not have the Day 1 and Day 2 photos of the Royal Thomian (132nd). I had dropped the camera in the CH&FC club while stumbling back home on the second day of the match. Manoj Herath picked up the camera, informed Piyadasa the bartender that a camera was found.

On the evening of the third day of the match I went back to the CH&FC, Piyadasa the bartender informed me a camera had been found and a couple of days later I had the camera back.

Manoj plays hockey for CH&FC. He was one of the youngest Police SI's. Apparently he has been under interdiction for a few years. If anyone who reads this can help him get his job back, that would simply be great. You can contact Manoj Herath at 077-2290987.

Update: Kumar David says this area will be used to "construct a new commerce block which will house twenty classrooms. The building alone will cost about Rs75 million and state of the art equipment another Rs25 million."

Ran into Senadeera (Suresh) at a little short eat joint in Ratmalana. Arranged to meet up that weekend on short notice at Havelocks. (Hint: Please let some one know (Weera, Peter etc) at least a few days earlier. Jayamanne (Sanath B.R.) this is a message to you too).

The regular crowd was there. Unhappily the English medium crowd including Lalvani and Gosti did not turn up.

Ended up at the CR&FC Jazz thing thanks to Jagdesh (probably is of different mind) and ran into RAI Elapata.

Dear Fellow Thomian,
This letter is to update you on the Old Boys' Association of your dear 'School by the Sea'.
This institution, which is in par to the great name of S. Thomas' College has been in existence since 1886 and has been supporting the College in its' activities. The purposes of an OBA are to "…increase the sense of fellowships in Old Boys both with one another and with the College, to promote the good works among them, and to afford guidance and encouragement to the younger generation" (Resolution at the First AGM). Needless to say, it constantly strengthens and builds many friendships fine and free.
The OBA is currently in the arduous process of updating its' Membership Database- Alumni, with a new computerized system which is to be also utilized for the greater benefit for the College as well. In doing so we hope to constantly keep you informed of various activities of both the College as well as its daughter organizations including the OBA itself. Moreover this would also increase the horizons, the boundaries of the Thomian Community and would help you to re-link with your old acquaintances scattered all over the world in various walks of life.
Warden de Alwis said 'The Interest of the College must give way to all other interest. When you help the College, please do not expect anything in return. We all owe the College something...... Remember the College is bigger than all of us put together. With or without us the College will go on. May we contribute together to its' glory.'

We bear the noblese oblige of supporting the College and its' affiliations in whatever capacity we could render. This is required of us as stated in the last stanza of out College anthem:

'When into the world we go
For our life's career,
As the call of duty sounds,
We will answer clear….'

In plight of many lapses that have been there in the past and with consideration of the deficiencies in the completeness of the existing Thomian database, we have thought of making appeal to you for your correspondence. A Thought For the Thomian Old Boy

"For what is it which brings you here-men of different ages, pursuits, circumstances? Why have the Old Boys of the College seen fit to form themselves into a society? It is not merely, I believe, a sentimental attraction towards a place where your early years were spent; not merely an affection for those who were your companions in those years; not merely a wish to renew old associations. Am I wrong in attributing your attachment to this place to something more than this-to your consciousness that you gained something here which has been of priceless value to you throughout life? You gained some good here. Men with all the responsibility and cares of life upon them would never come together, as you have done today, unless the memories evoked by the occasion were memories of good received. Something you received when here, which has in varying degrees remained with you all through life, however the troubles or anxieties of life may have tended to obscured it-something which has helped you in your hour of need and care and trial, something which, however much you may have lost sight of it yourself, you long that your children should receive."

I am finding it difficult to send e mails to all the guys the e mail is getting rejected because of one or two addresses.
I can remember Roy being one.

Last week to keep the spirits up thulasi came from Sri Lanka.
We had a dinner at my place there was also another old Thomian with us so we sang the college anthem as loud as we could.
It was fantastic and all those fantastic memories came back to me.

Please convey my regards to Shiran. We played Hockey together.If Iam correct he had had 2 older brother's, who too played Hockey for College. They are related to the the Wijayasooriya brothers, who all did sports from Barnes Ave.Mt. Lavinia. I spoke to Rukmal W. in Sydney, Australia, when I was on holiday.

Suresh B. , I met his Parents when they were in Toronto.Canada.

I spoke to Hensman a couple of months ago. I also was able to speak to Ravi Kuruppu and William Hendricus.

Finally got around to putting up a website for the class of 74.

I have added the emails as well, with an .stc ending, to prevent prevent automated email
farming by spam operators.  If anyone does not want their email listed let me know and Ill remove it.
